Not only is this a beautiful throw, but it is an easy pattern that is highly customizable. You pick the colors, or use it as a stash buster, and you decide how big or small you’d like it to be. It’s a great way to put your yarn scraps to creative use, and the stich pattern is repetitive and simple, and perfect for crocheting as you listen to audiobooks, podcasts, or even get caught up on your favorite videos, movies or TV programs!

This wonderful throw is the Firesong Throw, by crochet designer Cheryl of Crochet 365 Knit Too. It’s one of many free patterns she has offered over the years on her blog that are all perfect for helping you use every last scrap of yarn you might have on hand. In fact, every year, she offers a new pattern for a scrap afghan, blanket or throw. This one uses 11 colors, of your choice.

Cheryl’s throw is pictured above, and the colors are quite beautiful, and make me think of autumn, but it’s perfect for any season and anytime. And of course, your throw will be unique, if you like, based on the yarn that you have on hand, or the yarn you might want to buy the next time you’re shopping.

She gives you lots of tips and pointers for using your scrap yarn, and for estimating how much you’ll need for the rows. What’s great about this pattern is that because it’s using so many colors — 11 in total, as mentioned — you’re sure to find a use for many odds and ends in your yarn stash. It also works quite well if you like to separate the colors in yarn cakes such as Lion Brand Mandela, as I often do.
